Random Character Generator

Original characters with a name, role, personality, flaw, goal and quirk.

Create an original character in one click. Each character comes with a name, an age, a role, a personality trait, a flaw, something they want, a quirk and a visual detail. Together these give you enough to start a story, a drawing or a roleplaying character.

How to use it

  1. Press Generate character.
  2. Choose a setting (modern day, fantasy, sci-fi or mystery), an age group and a name style.
  3. Lock characters you like and generate more to build a cast.
  4. Copy the character as text, or download a whole cast as CSV or JSON.

Why a flaw and a goal matter

A goal tells you what your character is chasing, and a flaw tells you what gets in their way. That tension is the start of a plot. Try asking: what does this character do when their flaw stops them from reaching their goal?

Ideas

  • Writers: build a cast quickly, or fill your story with interesting side characters.
  • Artists: use the role and look as an OC (original character) drawing prompt.
  • Game masters: generate NPCs on the spot.
  • Teachers: give each student a character to write about.

Keep, copy and share your characters

Every result has a lock button. Locked results stay put when you generate again, so you can keep the characters you like and reroll the rest. The history panel keeps your earlier results, and the back arrow takes you to the previous set if you generated one time too many.

Use Copy to copy the results as a plain list, CSV or JSON, or download them as a file. Share copies a link that shows exactly the same results to whoever opens it, which is handy for games, classes and group chats.

Turning a character into a story

Some combinations write themselves. A shy character who wants to win a famous competition has a built-in conflict. A stubborn character trying to make peace with their father has another. Use the quirk and the look to make them easy to picture in a scene.

For tabletop games, generate a handful of characters before a session and keep them as ready-made people the players might meet. For drawing practice, use the age, job and look as a character design brief.
