This random object generator picks everyday items, from a teaspoon to a surfboard. Filter by where you’d find the object and how big it is, then use the results for drawing practice, scavenger hunts, charades or writing prompts.
How to use it
- Press Generate objects for three random things.
- Filter by where you would find it (kitchen, office and school, bathroom, outdoors and more) and by size.
- Set how many items you need, up to 100.
- Lock items to keep them and generate again.
Ideas for random objects
- Scavenger hunts: generate ten small objects and race to find them around the house.
- Drawing practice: sketch each object from memory, then from life.
- Charades and Pictionary: objects are easy to act out and draw.
- Writing: pick one object and write about who owned it.
- Inventions: combine two random items into a new invention.
About the list
We wrote this list ourselves: 280+ common objects grouped by room or use, each with a size. Where an emoji exists for an object, it is shown too.
Keep, copy and share your objects
Every result has a lock button. Locked results stay put when you generate again, so you can keep the objects you like and reroll the rest. The history panel keeps your earlier results, and the back arrow takes you to the previous set if you generated one time too many. Press Wheel to put the current results on a spinning wheel and pick one with a bit of drama.
Use Copy to copy the results as a plain list, CSV or JSON, or download them as a file. Share copies a link that shows exactly the same results to whoever opens it, which is handy for games, classes and group chats.
Games with random objects
Random objects work well for improv, where each player must use the object in a scene, and for “what could you do with this?” creativity exercises. For a quick debate game, generate five objects and decide which three you would take to a desert island. Use the “Where you would find it” filter to keep everything in one room, such as the kitchen, or the Size filter to make sure the objects can be found or carried.
